On-Farm and In-House research studies conducted under this institute have lead to the following salient achievements:
- The nutrient dynamic studies revealed wide spread deficiency of N&P in the province while K deficiency was localized in rice tract and sandy soils. The analytical data revealed that magnitude of deficiency for NPK is found to be 95%, 90% and 30%, respectively while 57% & 50% soils in Punjab are deficient in Zinc (Zn) and Boron (B) respectively
- Worked out the economics of fertilizer use. The Value Cost Ratio (VCR) of recommended doses for different crops were calculated to be as 3:1 in cereals, 4:1 in sugarcane, 3.5:1 in cotton and 6:1 in potatoes. Use of balanced fertilization only in wheat crop in Punjab can contribute an increase in income worth Rs. 55.744 billion than existing fertilizer use practices of the farmers
- Demonstrated the impact of balanced fertilization to increase profitability and arrest nutrient mining. In existing fertilizer use scenario K nutrient is depleting annually at 3 ppm
- Research on biological constraints in crop production indicated that fertilizer is key input and contributing more than 50% among different yield controlling factors
- Established critical limits for macro and micro nutrients and standardized test methodologies
- Established the best time and method of fertilizers application for various crops to harvest potential yields
- Developed site specific fertilizer recommendation system for major cash / grain crops
- Analyzed 4,598,633 soil, 345,631 water, 119,738 miscellaneous and 22,946 fertilizers anti-adulteration for guidance of farmers and provision of general and site specific fertilizer recommendations to increase per acre yield and enhance the national economy
- Delineated soil fertility status of Punjab soils and water quality of running tube wells and on the basis of available data, soil profile mapping at district & province levels was done
- Updating of fertilizer recipes and verification of existing recommendation remained continuous activity for raising actual yield potentials of various crops
