Recognizing the situation, the Government established the country's first soil fertility laboratory in late 1967 by appointing an Agricultural Chemist (Soil Fertility) in Lyallpur (now Faisalabad), followed by similar establishments in Rawalpindi (1969), Multan (1973), Lahore, Bahawalpur (1974), Dera Ghazi Khan (1996), Sargodha (2001), and Gujranwala (2002). There are currently 08 divisional and 28 district laboratories providing advisory services for soil, water and fertilizer analysis, as well as one reference laboratory that provides conclusive fertilizer analytical services under the Fertilizer Control Order, 1973 at Raiwind.
